Registration

Students are encouraged to consult the exam schedule online. However it is important to note that the exam schedule may change at any time. Students should therefore inquire with their instructors to confirm the correct time and date of their test. Students should also print out the official list to take with them to the exam.

In addition to the exam schedule, students should also familiarize themselves with the exam guidelines and terms and conditions. They are available on the webpage for each exam. Students acknowledge they have read and accepted the terms and conditions upon registration.

Exam locations will do their best to accommodate participants with special needs. The nature and degree of these needs must be declared on the registration form and verified by an attestation from a doctor. In addition the exam sites must respect confidentiality and be maintained.

If a student is scheduled to take three exams scheduled on the same day, it is recommended that they contact their department or instructor to schedule an alternate exam. While it is possible to take three tests in a single day, this can result in high stress levels and could impact the quality of the test. Additionally, the instructor might not be able offer a makeup exam on a different day.

Before taking the exam, students must prepare by studying the syllabus and practice their German skills. The exam is a test on paper that tests the ability to read, speak, and write in German. The results of the exam are reported on a scale of A1 to C2. Students who succeed in passing the test are awarded a Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate certifies the attainment of the language level A1. This level corresponds with the first level of the six-level scale of competency set out in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The test is free. Students must carry a valid government ID to the test. Students who do not have a valid picture ID will be disqualified.
